Telesales thriving as consumers shop from home, says study

Telesales success rates are booming, according to a new survey that may interest sales job applicants.

A study from market research firm GfK has discovered that the number of mobile phone contracts purchased via telesales departments or on the web increased by ten per cent between the first and the second quarters of 2008, reports the Retail Bulletin.

In the same period, the number of contracts taken out in-store fell from 50 per cent of all sales to 44 per cent.

The news provider suggested a growing consumer appetite for the competitive deals offered by telesales workers and websites as one driver of the trend.

According to GfK, the rising cost of petrol could be another reason for customers' preference for shopping at home.

The research has emerged as Mike Petevinos, head of consulting for retail at Capgemini UK, noted that retail organisations are increasingly looking to embrace a diverse selection of sales strategies, enhancing their online and telesales presence.
