Seek smart, job candidates told
Regardless of their qualifications, jobseekers should be smart in their employment search in order to find employment in the difficult economic climate.
According to Tony McKinnon, president of search and recruitment organisation MRINetwork, candidates should be aware they will be one of many jobseekers if they apply for work through a jobs board.
"No matter how good you are, how exceptional your qualifications or how brilliant your references, it's impossible for each and every connection you make to end up with a job offer - or even an interview," he added.
Mr McKinnon went on to say that when looking for a job online, candidates should ensure they have a solid mix of associations, niche sites and direct company contacts, as well as telling friends and associates that they are looking for work.
This week, wral.com reported that the interview is the crucial part of any job search and candidates should ensure they prepare thoroughly, as employment seekers have between just eight and 30 seconds to make a first impression.
