Company uptake of Twitter 'could have sales implications'
By Nikki Barrister
Technically-minded individuals looking for sales jobs could be interested to discover that businesses are increasingly using Twitter.
Managing director of New Media Intelligence Tim Houghton claims that this is more obvious in the US but is increasingly becoming part of the UK scene.
He says this provides another way for firms to engage potential customers in dialogue, which could create new opportunities for those looking at sales jobs.
Among the other functions companies are using Twitter for is as a way of obtaining customer feedback, he states.
Mr Houghton says this is being used in conjunction with corporate blogs, but adds that it is usually small and medium-sized enterprises which are deploying the technology in Britain.
He explains: "In the UK smaller companies have already embraced Twitter and are using it to get a message out there [but] most large UK companies are not."
Reuters recently reported that Twitter is preparing to offer commercial accounts in which an enhanced version of the service will be made accessible for organisations.
