Candidates 'should take varied approach to job seeking'
By Paul Goatman
Jobseekers should treat their employment search like a political campaign in order to succeed in the current market, it has been claimed.
According to political and public affairs staffing agency PoliTemps, multiple strategies are required to get a CV seen by the people who matter and secure a job interview.
The group recommends using social media to communicate with firms, attending networking events, preparing thoroughly for meetings with potential employers and sending resumes relevant to targeted industries.
President of the organisation Chris Jones commented: "In a competitive job market you need to campaign for a job. The candidate's goal is to get elected. Your mission is no less difficult - to get the job you want."
Last week, Peter Panayotou, senior consultant for employment adviser The Write Stuff, emphasised that future employment may be affected by candidates lying on a resume.
He commented that while candidates cannot be held legally liable for what is in their CV, outright untruths should be avoided wherever possible.
