Right to request training 'could benefit sales job applicants'
Successful applicants for sales jobs will be among those to benefit from the right to request time off for training, an expert has suggested.
As a result of the new right, which will come into force from April 2011, workers will have a legal right to ask for time off to take part in relevant training.
Kevin Brennan, skills minister, emphasised the importance of continued development to employers around the UK.
He said: "We need to empower people to speak about training opportunities and the benefits they can bring to a business' success."
He acknowledged that many businesses already excel at providing training but added that every company needs to provide advice on what is on offer.
As a result of the legislation, employers will be required to seriously consider requests for training that would improve the effectiveness of their workers.
Earlier this month, JRF poverty research manager Chris Goulden welcomed moves to extend youth employment plans, suggesting that the government's action could result in more help being provided to young people.
